Abstract: The existing on-load tap-changers for dry-type transformer have disadvantages such as relatively large volume and poor reliability, and need to be improved. A new type of on-load tap-changer for 10 kV dry-type transformer is proposed. The new on-load tap-changer is implemented by 400 V low-voltage AC contactor with latching. The switching process of the two AC contactors uses an auxiliary thyristor circuit transition to achieve the actual zero crossing of the load current to switch the transformer taps. There is no transient state in the switching process, no arcing on all mechanical switches. The reliability of the AC contactor is high, which guarantees the high reliability of the new type of on-load tap-changer.
