Abstract:
A coordinated control strategy utilizing a static synchronous compensator and hybrid energy storage system is proposed to achieve arc suppression in active distribution networks. By integrating existing STATCOM devices with battery storage, the proposed method achieves full fault current compensation without additional dedicated equipment, substantially reducing hardware investment costs compared with existing active arc suppression schemes. An adaptive phase-selection strategy based on the battery state of charge is developed, which dynamically adjusts the injection phase of the arc-suppression current and incorporates a hysteresis mechanism to maintain DC-side voltage stability. Simulation results demonstrate that the method effectively suppresses the fault current and reduces the fault point voltage to near zero under various conditions, including metallic and high-resistance grounding faults. The proposed strategy outperforms traditional arc suppression coils and STATCOM systems without energy storage in terms of dynamic response and arc-extinguishing reliability.
